The 2024 Fiesta Bowl was held on January 1st, 2024, at Glendale’s State Farm Stadium, Arizona. Celebrating its 53rd edition, it featured the Liberty Flames from Conference USA (C-USA) against the Pac-12’s Oregon Ducks.
Under Jamey Chadwell’s leadership, the Liberty Flames boasted an undefeated 13-0 season, marking their debut in the Fiesta Bowl and the first New Year’s Six bowl appearance for a C-USA team. Despite their formidable season, the Flames managed only 6 points against the Ducks.
Conversely, the Oregon Ducks, coached by Dan Lanning, entered with an 11-2 record. This event marked Oregon’s fourth Fiesta Bowl appearance. Positioned 8th, their two losses were both to Washington, once in the regular season and again in the 2023 Pac-12 Championship.
The game opened with Liberty scoring 6 points in the first quarter. But Oregon quickly gained momentum, scoring 3 points in the first and an impressive 28 in the second quarter. The Ducks maintained their lead in the second half, adding 7 points in each of the remaining quarters, concluding with a 45-6 Oregon triumph.
Oregon’s quarterback Bo Nix was named MVP for his pivotal role in their win. On defense, the MVP title went to Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa.
The 2024 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl highlighted Oregon’s supremacy in college football. Despite Liberty’s undefeated entry, the Ducks secured a commanding win. The game will be remembered for Bo Nix and Jeffrey Bassa’s stellar performances and Liberty Flames’ resilience.
