Operation Warp Speed(OWS) is a project that has been created by the U.S. Government with the goal of creating and distributing a cure for COVID-19 by January 19th, 2021 with 300 million doses available.
OWS is considered a partnership that’s been formed with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), the Department of Defense (DOD) the Department of Agriculture(USDA), the Department of Energy(DOE) and Department of Veterans Affairs.
OWS has been working tediously to find a cure as soon as possible. The rate at which people are suffering and sometimes dying from this virus has accelerated since the first outbreak and a COVID-19 cure would surely help decrease these numbers if a cure can be developed and distributed quickly.
If OWS can meet its deadline for creating a vaccine, this vaccine will not only be a major scientific accomplishment for medicine and the world but will save thousands if not millions of lives. Additionally, the leadership, commitment, therapeutics, diagnostics, amount of time, and financial resources are the components that will ensure Operation Warp Speed can possibly succeed in creating a vaccine for COVID-19 in the short time period it has given itself.
