Over 540 people have been infected in China with a new deadly Coronavirus. So far 17 people have died.
Because there is currently no vaccine for this virus it makes it even more deadly. The virus also doesn’t respond to any type of antibiotic treatment.
The WHO(World Health Organization) said, “Signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.”
The CDC said the virus can be spread in multiple ways including:
- The air by coughing and sneezing
- Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
- Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands
- Rarely, fecal contamination
The US started screening passengers from Wuhan to the United States on January 17th and the CDC said in regards to the screenings,”Starting January 17, 2020, travelers from Wuhan to the United States will undergo entry screening for symptoms associated with 2019-nCoV at three U.S. airports that receive most of the travelers from Wuhan, China: San Francisco (SFO), New York (JFK), and Los Angeles (LAX) airports”.
According to the CDC, “There are no specific treatments for illnesses caused by human coronaviruses. Most people with common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own”.
