The Kansas Jayhawks are the men’s national champions for 2022. They achieved a victory of 72-69 against Tar Heels from North Carolina. They did not have the success laid out before them all the way, though, since there were a lot of challenges along the way. For instance, their performance went off to a poor start where they had to deal with a massive 15-point deficit at halftime.
This is quite a huge deficit and the largest to be ever faced by a team in the entire history of the national championship. They overcame the points deficit and emerged victoriously, and captured their first NCAA title since 2008.
Notable players who performed excellently during the tournament were David McCormack, who had a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. He was supported by the energetic and dedicated performance of Jalen Wilson, who added 15 points. Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji contributed 12 points, while Remy Martin topped off the performance with 14 points from the bench.
This kind of teamwork is why the Kansas Jayhawks managed to be where they are, and the point deficit they had at halftime was not a deterrent to them. Instead, it encouraged them to be even stronger together and maintain a spirited performance which enabled them to clinch the title and emerge the winners of the NCAA championship after an incredibly long time.
This is their fourth national championship in the history of this program and another win that marks their magnificent performance. Ochai Agbaji made the ending even more memorable thanks to his hard work managing the pressure and enabling the Jayhawks to make a historic comeback.
The deficit resulted from the Tar Heels switching defenders, which meant that the Jayhawks were mainly caught off-guard in the first half, which led to the massive gap they had to perform extra hard to catch up and gain a lead over the team from North Carolina.
