Team USA lost to Serbia 94-89 today for the 2nd time in 2 days in its seventh game of the FIBA World Cup. It’s expected that the US will not finish better than 7th place by the conclusion of the tournament. This will be the worst performance and finish of the team in its history.
Team USA was eliminated by France on 09/11 in the quarterfinals. The loss to France was the first loss in 58 straight wins. Despite the loss Coach Gregg Popovich has expressed his gratitude for his player’s performance and has appreciated all the hard work they’ve put into the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Team USA qualified to participate in the next Olympics when they defeated Brazil with an 89-73 win. The 2020 Olympics are occurring in Japan and it’s expected that the roster for the USA team will have a much larger selection of star players. It’s also expected that the team won’t walk away without a medal.
