At least 50 civilians in Kyiv were injured by a Russian missile attack on Wednesday (12/13/23). The Ukrainian military also claimed that they shot down ten missiles on their way to the capital. According to a report released by Mayor Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, 53 civilians were injured by the Russian strike. Twenty of the victims, including two children, were severely wounded and hospitalized, while 33 victims, including six children, were treated on the spot.

Klitschko further added that a school, hospital, morgue, kindergarten, and residential buildings were damaged in the attack. The falling debris damaged the water supply in the district. The Ukrainian military has yet to identify the missile used by the Russians.

The Russian attack on Kyiv comes a day after Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visited Washington to meet with United States President Joe Biden and lawmakers, trying to secure additional emergency funding. Some Republicans are not convinced that the United States should continue sending aid to Ukraine.

Biden and other Ukrainian allies believe that cessation in aid will definitely spell victory for Moscow. Zelenskyy believes that the Biden administration will continue offering aid to Ukraine. Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of staff who was traveling with Zelenskyy, further insisted that the interception of the ten missiles is an indicator that Western support is playing a pivotal role in helping Ukraine resist the invasion.

Russian officials are yet to make an official statement on the missile strike on Kyiv.
