Yesterday the Vote to Impeach President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress occurred in the House of Representatives. The vote occurred primarily down party lines except for 2 Democrats who voted against impeachment for the first charge and 3 Democrats who voted against impeachment for the second charge.

For the first charge, which was abuse of power, President Trump was accused of abusing his power when he attempted to put pressure on the President of Ukraine to announce there was an investigation into Joe Biden.

For the abuse of power charge 229 Democrats voted yes for impeachment and 1 Independent voted yes for impeachment. 195 Republicans voted no for impeachment and 2 Democrats voted no for impeachment. In total 230 representatives voted yes for the abuse of power charge and 197 representatives voted no for the abuse of power charge.

For the second charge, which was obstruction of Congress, President Trump was accused of not co-operating with the impeachment inquiry by withholding information and preventing his aides from co-operating with the impeachment inquiry.

For the obstruction of Congress charge 228 Democrats voted yes for impeachment and 1 Independent voted yes for impeachment. 195 Republicans voted no for impeachment and 3 Democrats voted no for impeachment. In total 229 representatives voted yes for the obstruction of Congress charge and 198 representatives voted no for the obstruction of Congress charge.

The next vote is in the Senate. The Senate currently has 53 Republicans, 45 Democrats and 2 Independents. To be convicted of the charges in the Senate a two-thirds majority is required which is most likely not going happen. The Senate will most likely vote no on all charges and a no vote will result in an acquittal of all the charges against the President.
