Pakistan and China have now legally established a tremendous $4.8 billion agreement to construct an outstanding 1,200-megawatt nuclear power plant in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif honored this landmark investment, recognizing China As Pakistan’s steadfast ally and exemplifying their enduring trust and faith in Pakistan’s potential.
The agreement which is officially called the Chashma 5 project is located in the Punjab province. The pow marks a pivotal step toward Pakistan’s sustainable energy future. Upon signing the agreement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on the state-run news channel PTV that the project would begin immediately.
“Pakistan takes pride in receiving a massive investment of $4.8 billion from China for the innovative project. This substantial donation reinforces Pakistan’s standing as a favorable site for Chinese companies and financiers, further intensifying the relationship of friendship and reciprocal affluence between our two nations.”
With Chinese collaboration, the successful completion of the Chashma 5 project will bolster Pakistan’s nuclear energy production capacity, which currently stands at 1,400 megawatts following the commissioning of the country’s sixth nuclear power plant in Karachi.
In a testament to the enduring friendship between the two countries, Sharif thanked their partners for their unwavering commitment, highlighting their generous concession of a $100 million discount for the new venture. Furthermore, despite the project’s delay, the Chinese side generously disbursed an initial sum of $104.53 million (30 billion Pakistani rupees) to expedite its commencement, affirming their dedication to Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
In light of this remarkable agreement, the depth of collaboration between Pakistan and China becomes even more evident. While the classification of this investment within the Belt and Road Initiative is yet to be confirmed, it is undeniable that China’s substantial dedication reflects the enduring partnership between these two nations.
