The 79th Golden Globe Awards took place over this past weekend(1/9/2022) and they were not televised. The winners were announced online as a part of the Golden Globes celebrations. There were some fan favorites who were announced as early winners including Will Smith who won Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his recent role in the Serena and Venus Williams movie(King Richard) based on their life.
Andrew Garfield also won for the Best Performance by an Actor at the Golden Globes too in the category for Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. It was his work in portraying Rent creator Jonathan Larson that got him the win. The real-time updates on the winners were provided on the website and across social media. This is yet another award show that has been impacted by the pandemic in the way that it operates. The Golden Globes has also been previously targeted for boycotts too, over concerns related to a diversity and ethics scandal. There are many who still enjoy watching the show and tune in to find out what if any of their favorite actors might be bringing home an award for a favorite performance over the past year.
There have been a number of great performances and films that have come out. Other winners at the 2022 Golden Globes included Rachel Zegler who had won Best Actress in the category for a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Zegler had won for playing Maria in the popular work that came out last year which was West Side Story. Another favorite, Nicole Kidman, took him a Golden Globe too. Kidman had won Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama this year for her incredible work in playing Lucille Ball. The attendance had been limited to the Golden Globe award show and only the attendees had also been the presenters at the Golden Globes this year too. There were not any nominees or guests in attendance, along with no media too.
