Republicans take control of the house of representatives with a small lead, after a week of vote counting. This allows them to have veto power over President Biden as he goes through his final two years in office. Republicans had hoped for a bigger red wave during the 2022 midterms but are pleased to at least have the majority and some control in Washington again.

Republicans needed to flip five house seats to gain the majority and were able to do that without much more than that happening for them. Republicans fought for those seats by talking about inflation and how bad things have gotten in the country over the course of the first two years of Biden’s presidency. They also discussed crime and safety and how things are not on the right track with it. Democrats used abortion as their main talking point and got many people to vote for them because of how they feel about it.
